Mario Kart 7 doesn't really move the series forward in any huge way, but it takes what Mario Kart already was, and polishes that concept to a brilliant sheen. My only complaint with this entry is that you cannot use the d-pad for steering, only the analog slider is allowed for that. A few new combat items are available as well, such as the Tanooki Tail and Fire Flower. If racing gets old, there's also Balloon Battles and Coin Runners mode to keep the player busy, along with robust online options. There are 8 cups across 32 courses, half of which are new, and the other half remixes of prior courses from earlier games in the series. Karts are further customizable via a plethora of options, most of which unlock from doing well in the races. This allows the races to take to the air or go under water, which actually doesn't change the racing all that much, but is nice for the variety alone. Outside the impressive 3D effect, Mario Kart 7 brings hang-gliding and submarine additions to the kart itself. This game looks and sounds fantastic, runs smooth as silk, controls well, and is a joy to play. Oh and getting the gold kart pieces is gonna take you the rest of your lifeĩ0% Nintendo 3DSMario Kart 7 is a superbly well made entry to this long run kart racing franchise. All in all my feelings for this game are oddly strong, I can't truly tell you why I love it so much. After finally getting a 3 star rank on all cups on all difficulty's I can say I'm quite satisfied. This games AI on mirror difficulty is beyond ruthless, I'm convinced that they all work together to make sure you absolutely will NOT get a 3 star run. Poor roster (No Waluigi but the motherfucking bee from mario galaxy is here?), no campaign missions like mario kart ds and while it has a lot of tracks that I like (Daisy cruiser, DK jungle, etc) there aren't any amazing tracks.

Yes, when compared to other Mario kart games it definitely lacks in places. The drifting and boosting feels so incredibly good that it truly feels second nature. Mario kart 8 feels buttery smooth but 7 feels buttery smooth with a saxophone solo on the side. Game on!ĩ0% Nintendo 3DSI don't know what it is about this game, but this is my absolute favorite Mario kart of the series. You can follow her zany exploits on MyIGN and Twitter. She is also a lifelong gamer, a frequent banisher of evil and a wielder of various legendary blades. Audrey Drake is an Associate Editor of IGN.com and a proud member of the IGN Nintendo team. Overall it’s a well-polished experience that fans of the kart-racing genre - or of the Mushroom Kingdom - should not hesitate to pick up. The game also marks a huge leap forward for Nintendo’s approach to online multiplayer, providing an experience that surpasses any of the company’s other games to date.

With memorable new tracks, well implemented gyro controls, the triumphant return of coins and a handful of new modes, Mario Kart 7 is full of win. Though the character roster should have been larger, and a cheap blue shell can still screw up an otherwise perfect race, MK7 still offers enough innovation to keep this old formula feeling fresh.
